CUSTOM ECOMMERCE + DIGITAL PERMIT SYSTEM

A website built around the way WMAT Game & Fish actually works.

White Mountain Apache Tribe Game & Fish needed more than a redesigned website. They needed an online system capable of handling permit sales, customer roles, tribal pricing, date restrictions, staff workflows, verification, and ongoing growth.

THE PROJECT

This was never going to be just another ecommerce website.

WMAT Game & Fish sells fishing, camping, recreation, boating, Christmas Tree Lake, and other permits to several different customer groups. Each permit has its own rules, pricing, date logic, and eligibility requirements.

The website needed to make the process easier for customers while giving staff control over purchases, permits, verification, reporting, and future updates.

Rather than forcing the organization into a standard ecommerce template, the system was shaped around the real permit process.

THE CHALLENGE

One website. Several completely different customer experiences.

01

Complex permit rules

Daily, monthly, annual, seasonal, and date-restricted permits required different purchasing logic.

02

Role-based pricing

Tribal members, non-member spouses, camp hosts, public customers, and staff needed different pricing and access.

03

Staff verification

Rangers and staff needed a practical way to confirm permits without navigating the full WordPress dashboard.

04

Customer clarity

Buyers needed to understand which permit applied to them without being overwhelmed by internal rules.

THE STRATEGY

Start with the workflow. Then build the technology around it.

The project began by identifying how each permit should be purchased, who should see it, how long it should remain valid, what information should appear on the finished permit, and how staff would manage it.

The customer-facing design stayed simple while the more complicated rules worked behind the scenes.

WHAT WAS BUILT

A flexible platform designed for real operational needs.

Custom permit purchasing

Daily, monthly, annual, seasonal, and activity-specific permit options were configured through WooCommerce.

Role-based visibility

Products, pricing, menus, and information change based on the customer’s assigned role.

Automated permit documents

Purchases generate downloadable permits with customer, permit, date, and verification information.

Ranger verification

Staff can confirm permit details through a simplified verification process.

Date and availability rules

Permit duration, closures, seasonal pricing, booking limits, and expiration rules are handled within the system.

Mobile-first purchasing

The experience was designed for customers who may be buying or showing permits from a phone.

THE RESULT

A better customer experience—and a system that immediately began generating revenue.

Within approximately six weeks, the website generated more than $20,000 in online permit revenue.

Customers gained a clearer way to purchase and access permits, while staff gained a platform capable of supporting multiple user groups, pricing structures, permit types, and operational requirements.

The site continues to evolve as new roles, rules, and business needs are introduced.
